Course Description

This 1-day intermediate course provides a focused overview of long-document setup, advanced typography and styles, tables and structured content, and preflighting and packaging. The course is an ideal combination of instructor-led demonstration and hands-on practice.

Professional designers who have a working knowledge of InDesign and want to build intermediate production skills.

Prerequisites:

Practical working knowledge of computers and basic Mac OS X or Windows skills.
InDesign Fundamentals: An Introduction to InDesign class or equivalent experience is recommended.

Working with parent pages, parent page overrides, and section markers
Automated page numbering, running headers, and footers
Advanced primary text frame workflows and thread options
Using Book files (.indb) to combine and manage multiple documents

Lesson 2: Advanced Typography & Formatting Styles

Creating, nested, and chained Paragraph and Character Styles
Object Styles with nested frame options, effects, and text wraps
GREP Styles for automated character formatting (patterns, digits, phone numbers)
Baseline grids, document grids, and micro-typography settings

Lesson 3: Tables, Lists & Structured Content

Creating, formatting, and styling complex tables
Table Styles and Cell Styles integration
Multi-level numbered and bulleted lists
Endnotes, footnotes, and cross-references

Lesson 4: Preflighting, Packaging & Asset Management

Defining custom Preflight profiles to identify document errors live
Managing linked high-resolution assets and missing links
Creative Cloud Libraries, Snippets, and object reuse
Packaging documents with links, fonts, and instructions
